Feast of Fools
14 May-1 June 2016
14 May-1 June 2016
Feast of Fools takes its name from the medieval festival when all class distinctions were abolished and laws that normally governed sensible behaviour were virtually suspended. The carnival celebrated a brief social revolution, in which barriers were lost and playfulness was encouraged throughout the community regardless of status.
Film Night: 14 May 7-9pm
A selection of short videos, snapshots and clips chosen by studio residents.
Gallery Brunch: 22 May 11am
Join us on Sunday morning for Brunch in the gallery where artists have been working on material and testing ideas for the forthcoming exhibition. No booking required for brunch.
Research Lab: Between Sensing and Feeling: 22 May 1pm
The lab is a space to share some thoughts and movement exercises that could be useful to spatial design, scenographers and visual artist. The workshop will include exercises and scores from dance and performance practice, to perform together; tools for listening and attuning the senses and exploring the spectrum between sensing and feeling. How might some of these help to think more intuitively about space and materials, articulate material encounters, or have a more intimate or empathetic exchange.
This Lab is open to anyone, regardless of your practice or background, and flexible depending on peoples interests. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Exhibition preview with guest’s T-Bitch and Cherry Scott: 28 May 6 - 10pm
New work, collaborations and performances from studio residents.
T-bitch is a glorious musical cocktail, born from minds that were fed up being defined by their gender and sterile music ruling the charts. T-bitch are part transvestite punk, part Riot Grrrl, part laugh your knickers off sing along. The ethos is 'Do it', no matter how good you think you aren't and 'If your not sure, don't ask' because nothing matters more than this moment right now.
